Our Darwin Day video!

This afternoon for Darwin Day we had a great conversation about worries and how to deal with them. We particularly talked about the Year Sixes worries about moving onto high school and the Year Fives feelings about heading into Year Six. Here's a video we made to give some advice to people in a similar situation!

Theme Park Maths Investigation!

In Ash class we are making theme parks to see how much it costs to run it each day for three seasons. We are also trying to make a profit. We have five hundred thousand pounds that we borrowed. Most people have spent a bit of their money and the rest spent loads of their money. Quite a few people haven't finished yet. When we are finished we have to swap our sheets with another pupil in the class. Then they will see how much we have to charge all the customers to get in. We received a sheet which has all the different attractions on it ( e.g. shops, roller coasters and so on). We have three different categories which have different rides in and different costs.

We'll let you know who has the most profit in a week's time or less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Darwin Day motivational posters!

On Friday it was Darwin Day - we talked about taking risks (something the Year Sixes will be learning all about at Manor!) and having the strength or character to persevere when you encounter a setback. We also heard a story about a man called Alex Zanardi, who was a racing driver who lost both his legs in a car accident during a race - he had the strength of character to come back to racing cars and also won a gold medal in hand cycling in the London Paralympics - an amazing man!
We then looked at some motivational posters and decided to create our own - here they are!

The Piano - flashback group writing!

Over the past couple of lessons we've been studying The Piano, an animated video by Aidan Gibbons. We then produced some flashback writing based on it - Sparta Table working with Mrs Robinson, while the rest of the class worked with Mr Kenyon...
We'll be writing our own flashbacks over the next few days - here's the video we're basing them on...

Outdoor maths investigation!

Yesterday we took our maths lesson outside and investigated the height and circumference of the trees on our school field - it was pretty cold and rather muddy but we managed to measure some massive trees! Watch out for a video guide coming soon which will explain exactly how we did it!
And here's some of the work we produced once we got back into the warmth of the classroom!

Hmmmm, so not everyone liked the olives - did you? :-)

Ancient Greece Day in Ash Class!

Today we had a fantastic time having our Greek Day in school - we tried Greek foods (though not eveyone liked the olives!), made Greek head-dresses, city state banners for Athens and Sparta, did some Greek dancing and even recorded some speeches using the green screen! There'll be some videos from the day on here soon, but in the meantime enjoy these photos...

Spartan Warriors in training!

Here's a quick video of the Spartan Warrior training!

Adras the Greek visits Ash Class!

Adras the Greek:
Helped us on our magical quest to find at least six Greek words that have survived through the ancient times up to the present day but we found  about twenty-one words in total: democracy, alphabet, disc-discus, mathematics, philosophy and loads of other words too. We also played some games like… making human chariots in our tables, training to be Spartan warriors and playing guessing games with Adras! We did it all in the ancient Greek times with Jenny. And obviously learned all sorts of things about the Ancient Greeks!

Strange science work!

This week we've begun our science topic on the body - we started by drawing around people in the class and then trying to label where different body parts (like the heart, lungs, spine, ribs, etc...) are - we did well but had some things in some rather odd places!
