All hail our Queen of Sentences!

All Hail our new Queen of Sentences!
Well done for this stunning sentence:
The bent, tall, hollow tree made a minor arch across the bitter, yet refreshing water in the narrow lake.
Long live the Queen!

Outdoor maths investigation!

Yesterday we took our maths lesson outside and investigated the height and circumference of the trees on our school field - it was pretty cold and rather muddy but we managed to measure some massive trees! Watch out for a video guide coming soon which will explain exactly how we did it!
And here's some of the work we produced once we got back into the warmth of the classroom!

Pav's 100wc - week 10:

Dear diary,
The bullying is still going on, I feel weaker like I'm rotting on the inside. I'm to shy to talk to anyone it's like darkness is following me everywhere. I'm crying rivers of tears in my room,  it's painful more painful than anything else. I feel like a moulding apple on top of a rubbish tip in the freezing winter. HELP!

Beth's 100wc - week 10:

Dear diary,
Today it happened again: I'm starting to think about moving school. This diary is the only place I can write out how this makes me feel: the only way to get out all the anger and pain that I have buried down deep inside me. Today he took my tuck money - I was starving all the way till lunch since I had no breakfast. Also he's constantly calling me names and teasing me about my little brother! Sometimes I just want to attack him but I know that wouldn't do any good. Also I know that doing that would make me just as bad as him...

Sam B's 100wc - week 10:

Easy Steps to help someone that is bullying:

1) Ask them what type of bullying it is because some types are easer to sort out than others.

2) Talk to them see what is wrong (if it still is going on don't talk to them they could just like the attention).

3) Make sure you punish them if you don't they will keep on doing it.

4) If something is going on at home talk to their parents. Try to sort it out.

5) If it's because they think they are stupid help them see that they are clever.

6) If you have to suspend them.

Dylan's 100wc - week 10:

Bullied! An interview with a victim:

When I was at school I got bullied because I had long hair, it's stupid what you get bullied for.

I told the teachers but they didn't do anything about it. I asked the bully to stop it, he didn't. i didn't know what to do,everyday I woke up dreading about going to school ,I wanted to go to sleep and never wake up.

Everyday it got worse, the bully started to make up rumours about me, that people actually believed. In the end I couldn't take any more. I said  to the bully "get lost and leave me alone!" Scared, he ran away and didn't bully me again.

By Dylan.

Jade's 100wc - week 10

Dear diary,
It happened again today. Martin and his gang of followers, at the same time threw stones at me. I reckon I will have another set of marks all over me.
It has to stop, I can't stand it any more! It's the same place all the time getting worse every time. I'm going up to secondary school this year, but there're going to the same secondary school as me. What should I do? I'm just surrounded by bullies, I don't understand why they're just bullying me. It is not fair.
That's all for today - let's hope tomorrow is better.

Hmmmm, so not everyone liked the olives - did you? :-)

Ancient Greece Day in Ash Class!

Today we had a fantastic time having our Greek Day in school - we tried Greek foods (though not eveyone liked the olives!), made Greek head-dresses, city state banners for Athens and Sparta, did some Greek dancing and even recorded some speeches using the green screen! There'll be some videos from the day on here soon, but in the meantime enjoy these photos...

A reminder for Greek Day!

Remember that it is Greek Day tomorrow (Friday 23rd Nov) in school for Years 5 and 6! You need to come into school dressed in your Greek costume and also with your contribution towards our Greek feast!
The easiest costume to create is a toga - make sure you wear white t-shirt and shorts/trousers underneath then use a bedsheet to create your toga. Wrap it around your body under your armpits (you may need to secure it with some safety pins!) and then tie it up over one shoulder. You can then decorate it with any belts, sandals, brooches or anything else you can think of!

Make sure that you bring a warm coat and jumper for breaktime and lunchtime!

To help you, here are some photos from the Greek Day we had two years ago...

Children in Need.

Today it was Children in Need.  We came in non-uniform,  mostly people were dressed in pyjamas (most of the boys like wearing onesie!).  We paid one pound to come in non-uniform, then with the extra change we had, we bought badges and had face paint.  So altogether we raised (in our class) probably over fifty pounds!

Sam B's Finding Out interview!

Here's Sam B's Finding Out interview - he questioned his dad about what it was like for him when he was at school! This is especially impressive as Sam made the video by using a variety of iPad apps (eg, Garageband for the backing track) to create his finished piece of work - well done, Sam!

Hunting for parallel and perpendicular lines!

Today we learnt about parallel and perpendicular lines, then some of the class took the iPads out to go searching for them - can you spot them? Remember that parallel lines will never get closer or further apart, no matter how long they are! Perpendicular lines meet at a right angle (like a capital 'L'!)

Horsing around!

What a great photo! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Neeeeiiigh! It's a horse!

I go horse riding at Prescott riding centre. I started off with private lesson which was half an hour riding but now I am in pony club. In pony club we have an hour riding and a hour grooming sometimes less riding so we can muck out the horses. My favourite horse is Frankie (he is in the picture).
List of horses ridden:
Frankie
Teddy
Casper
Annie (not in pony club)
Sally (huge)

100wc - week 5...

We're back to a regular style of prompt this week - part of a sentence that you need to include in your piece of work...

...the temperature dropped suddenly and...

So you have 105 words in total. We'll not be doing the 100wc in class this week as we'll be finishing off our Hercules stories. Why not have a go at the 100wc at home and then email it (or get an adult to) - the address is ash.greenfields@gmail.com - any entries that get sent in will go on the blog!

Remember to use some of the sentence types we've been looking at (2A, 3ED, 2 pairs, similes, etc...). Show off just how good your writing is becoming!

Adras the Greek visits Ash Class!

Adras the Greek:
Helped us on our magical quest to find at least six Greek words that have survived through the ancient times up to the present day but we found  about twenty-one words in total: democracy, alphabet, disc-discus, mathematics, philosophy and loads of other words too. We also played some games like… making human chariots in our tables, training to be Spartan warriors and playing guessing games with Adras! We did it all in the ancient Greek times with Jenny. And obviously learned all sorts of things about the Ancient Greeks!

Michael's 100wc - week 2:

We were just sitting down for dinner when we had a power cut. I saw a white flashing around the corner. I looked, there was a ghost on top of the old, creaky stairs.

As I watched, the ghost said, "hello". His voice sounded friendly and gentle. It reminded me of my best friend Ben who died in a horrible car crash a few years ago.

All of a sudden, the lights were back on. I rubbed my eyes, the ghost was gone. Confused, I ran up the stairs that creaked with every step. Who was this boy? Where had he gone..?
